Ervin W. Abeln, 86 of Moberly passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at the University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. Ervin was born to Willis B. and Bertha (Ginter) Abeln on March 13, 1927 in Salisbury, Missouri. Ervin enlisted in the United States Army in 1945 where he performed duties as a truck driver in detachment 121st General Hospital. He received the Army of Occupation Medal and World War II Victory Medal. Ervin previously worked for the Feed Mill in Salisbury for years where he was a truck driver, he farmed, and spent most of his career in the construction business as a carpenter. Ervin was a member of the St. Pius X Parish. Ervin had a great sense of humor and loved telling jokes even if they were not always funny to others. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and was known to be outspoken. He was well loved and will be sadly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Maurice Abeln; sisters: Virginia Shatto and Mildred Huss. Ervin is survived by his wife of 17 years, Florence Abeln of Moberly; sons: Richard Abeln and wife Kathy of Brookfield, MO, and Donald Abeln and wife Dona of Kansas City, KS; daughters: Joyce Henry and husband Dan of Columbia, MO, Kathy Bean of Salisbury, MO, Geri Blakey of Moberly, MO, Anita Risch of Fulton, MO, Linda Mullikin of Clark, MO, Tammy Robb and husband Charles of Moberly, MO, and Lisa Locke of Renick, MO; sisters: Dorothy Weimer of Keytesville, MO, Nadine Trollinger and husband Bill of Lees Summit, MO, and Laveda Neimier and husband Ralph of Salisbury, MO; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 6:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m at the Million Taylor Funeral Homes of Moberly. Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, January 31, 2014 at 11:00 a.m at St. Pius X, Moberly, MO with Father Phil Niekamp as celebrant. The Rite of Committal is to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Moberly, MO under the direction of Million Taylor Funeral Homes. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Ervin W.
