Harold Lloyd Ess, 85 , formerly of Madison, Missouri passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Missouri Veteran’s Home in Mexico, Missouri. Harold was born January 19, 1932 to Lloyd Ernest and Elsie Mae (Martin) Ess in Clark, Missouri. He served in the United States Army where he was wounded twice in combat during the Korean War. He was a Purple Heart recipient. Harold worked as self-employed mechanic at Ess Implement and farmed in Monroe County during his career. He married Shirley Jean Robertson in September of 1957. Some of his hobbies included, fishing, reading books by Louis L’Amour, tinkering, and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. His care givers knew him for his “traveling snack wheelchair” and how he would always ask them for snuff. Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Jean Ess in June of 1991; sons: Mitchell and Roy Ess; brothers: Fred and George Ess; sisters: Ida Mae Lessly and Lorene Mallory. Survivors include his children: Bonnie Ess of Monroe City, Missouri, Lena (Dan) Sharp of Paris, Missouri, Linda (John) McMorris of Holts Summit, Missouri, Tony (Nicki) of Columbia, Missouri, Bill (Tammy) Ess of Marshall, Missouri, Robert Ess of Syracuse, UT, Tom Ess of Centralia, Missouri, and Anna Doke of St. Louis, Missouri; 15 Grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. A visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 from 12:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. at the Million Taylor Funeral Homes of Moberly. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery, Renick, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Missouri Veteran’s Home in Mexico, Missouri.
