Russell Lee Mitchell passed away at the age of 90 at the Clarence Care Center where he had resided for one and a half years. Over the years he had lived in the Cairo, Kansas City, New Cambria, and Macon communities. He served in WWII. He was a very talented, self-taught person. Over the years he was a farmer, truck driver, rode in rodeo’s, wrote songs, and was an auctioneer. Russell belonged to the Teamster Local 41, Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association, and Nashville Song writers association. Russell was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Nadine (Hasstedt) Mitchell; parents, Robert and Clara (Fitzgerald) Mitchell; brothers, Albert and James; sisters, Irene Long and Marie Ransdell. Survivors include his daughter, Beverly Atkins; grandchildren: Troy Ratliff, Rusty and Carrie Ratliff, Terri Peters, and Jerry K. and Debbie Hess; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Friday, July 7, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. at the Million Taylor Funeral Homes of Moberly. Burial will follow at Grand Prairie Cemetery, Cairo, Missouri.
