Virginia D. Elsberry

Virginia D. Elsberry, 104, of Moberly, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at North Village Park, Moberly, Missouri. Virginia was born in Evansville, Missouri on October 12, 1912 to Mahlon Newton and Nettie May (Lepper) Powell. She married Gerald Elsberry and he preceded her in death in 1989. Virginia loved to garden, was a great quilter, and enjoyed walking. She was known to get on her roof and clean out gutters as well as mow her lawn. She was also preceded in death by her sisters: Mary Jane Apel, Bertha Ruth Meals, Lorene Francis Elsberry, Jewell Ballard, Carrie Mae Staley; brothers: Lloyd Powell, Austin Powell, Carl Powell, John Powell, and Richard Powell. Survivors include her sons: Earl (Debbie) Powell of Moberly, Missouri and Jim (Narda) Powell of Madison, Missouri; sister, Betty Ann Meals of Independence, Missouri; grandchildren: Jeremy Powell, Jessica Wilson, Justin Powell, Brian Powell, Kimberly Black, and Keely Brewer; 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Million Taylor Funeral Homes of Moberly. Funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Vic Comstock officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Madison, Missouri. What a sweet, sweet lady. I always enjoyed caring for her, she was a one of a kind soul. Always had a smile on her face (Unless it was shower day), but once you got her in & out she would smile & thank you. She will be miss dearly.

This truly breaks my heart. Miss Virginia was always so pleasant and polite. She always had a smile on her face when I came in her room. It was a pleasure to care for her for the time I did. I will miss you Miss Virginia. I love you. RIP fly with the angels.

Virginia was the sweetest and kindest person i have ever known she was a real joy to care for she called everone dear her gentle smile and politeness I will never forget !!! I am deeply saddened to know she has passed she was an angel on earth for sure so glad to have known her my heartfelt sympathy to all her love ones
