Anna Marie Miller

Anna Marie Miller 95 of Moberly, MO, went to be with her Lord June 16, 2016. She was born September 8, 1920, in Darksville, MO to Clarence and Esther (Summers) Heifner. Anna Marie graduated from Huntsville High School in 1938. She went on to Moberly Junior College and received an Associate’s degree. In 1940 Anna Marie moved with her sister Betty to Shenandoah, IA where they sang for many shows on KMA radio. From 1940 to 1945, Anna Marie and Betty, better known as the Heifner Sisters, would sing on countless radio programs in Columbia, MO, Shenandoah, IA, Atlanta, GA, Cincinnati, OH, and St. Louis, MO. Anna Marie became an elementary school teacher and taught in many schools throughout Missouri. When Missouri laws changed and required teachers to have a bachelor’s degree, Anna Marie attended evening classes at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. She received her BS in 1968. She retired from teaching in 1982. On April 20, 1947 Anna Marie married Lawrence W. Miller in Moberly, MO. When Lawrence became an ordained minister, Anna Marie faithfully served alongside him in churches throughout Missouri; singing alto in the church choir, participating and often leading the churches’ Women’s Missionary Union, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and many other duties as needed. All of which she managed to do while being mother to four children! Her children and their families survive: Larry and Judith Miller of Lee’s Summit, Mark Miller of Cairo, David and Patty Miller of Moberly, Susan Miller and Gary Pennington of Kansas City, ten grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and her brother Leland Heifner. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, her parents, sister and one daughter-in-law. Services will be Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Mt. Shiloh Baptist Church in Darksville. Visitation at 10am with funeral at 11am. Burial will be at the church cemetery under the direction of Million Taylor Funeral Homes. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family asks that memorials be made to the Mt. Shiloh Cemetery.
