Anthony Dean Sloan

October 19, 1969 — May 7, 2022

Anthony “Tony” Dean Sloan, 52, of Roanoke, MO passed away at Boone Hospital in Columbia, MO on Saturday, May 7th, 2022 surrounded by the love of his family.

Tony was born on October 19, 1969 in Farmington, MO to Garry Sloan and Vivian (Simpkins) Sloan.  He graduated from North County High School and attended the University of Missouri Columbia. Tony worked as the physical plant manager at Moberly Area Community College for over 10 years.

He married Beth (Beach) Sloan on May 4, 1996 in Columbia, MO. Just a few years later in 1999, Tony and Beth bought her great-grandparents farm just north of Roanoke and began making a life for themselves. Tony was always hard at work building ponds, fences and restoring the farm.

In 2006, he began building a new home for his family. Tony (with help from his dad) did almost all of it on his own. Between the new home and the farm, sometimes the work seemed endless, but Tony never once complained about the hard work, long days or the setbacks.  Since he was a small boy, he had wanted to own a farm and it was truly paradise to him.

In his free time, Tony could be found officiating high school and college football, basketball and softball games. He was heavily involved in youth football; he also taught 4-H shooting, and served as the “Greenhouse Expert” every month on KWIX radio. Tony was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, serving whenever he could. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, farming, watching the St. Louis Cardinals but above all else being with his family.

Anyone who knew Tony knew he was extremely determined. If he decided on something, he did not quit until he accomplished it. He had a very strong work ethic and an amazing depth and breadth of knowledge about all kinds of things. He had a truly unshakable will.  Tony was an extremely active man who appreciated the simple things in life. He was at peace with the world when he was just out on his trusty John Deere tractor tending to his cows. His family will always remember him as a strong-willed man who was set on living life on his own terms.

Tony is survived by his wife, Beth Sloan of Roanoke, MO; his children, Olivia Sloan (20) of Kirksville, MO and Braden Sloan (16) and Julia Sloan (15), both of Roanoke, MO; his parents, Garry and Vivian Sloan of Farmington, MO; siblings, Garry and Erin Sloan, Jennifer and Randy Rowe and Melissa and Kacy Van Osdol; several nieces and nephews; extended family and many good friends.

A celebration honoring Tony’s life has been scheduled for Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 101 S. Fourth St., Moberly, MO 65270.  Family will receive guests from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the celebration.
