Charles William Gordon Jr.

May 8, 1953 — Oct 6, 2026

Charles William Gordon, Jr., better known as Charlie, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2026, on a glorious fall day. His life was one of service, creativity, devotion to family, and a generous spirit that touched the lives of many.

Charlie was born on May 8, 1953, to Charles William Gordon, Sr. and Luanna McNutt Gordon. He was the only boy among six children, growing up with five sisters. He is survived by his sisters Jenifer Malson (Michael), Belita Gordon, and Ann Warren (Richard).

Charlie proudly served his country for 20 years in the United States Air Force, from 1972 to 1992, working in Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD). His military service reflected his courage, dedication, intelligence, and willingness to take on difficult challenges in service to others.

Following his military retirement, Charlie trained and worked in various areas of the computer field for more than 30 years. He had a curious and inventive mind and was never afraid to learn something new.

One of Charlie’s greatest loves was Whippets. For many years, he bred and showed these beautiful dogs, developing deep friendships and wonderful memories along the way. His love of dogs also inspired his creativity. He designed and handcrafted elaborate collars and leashes, which he sold at dog shows and festivals under his trade name, Sylk Wind.

In retirement, Charlie found great joy in creating things for the people he loved. He especially enjoyed working with his laser engraver, making thoughtful and often wonderfully unique gifts for family and friends. His creations were an expression of his imagination, generosity, and love.

But perhaps Charlie will be remembered most for his huge and generous heart and his wicked sense of humor. He had a way of making people laugh, often when they least expected it, and his unique personality could never be mistaken for anyone else’s. Beneath that humor was a man who cared deeply and gave generously of himself.

Charlie lived a life of courage, creativity, service, laughter, and love. He leaves behind not only memories, but pieces of himself in the many people, animals, and creations he cared for throughout his life.

He leaves behind a loving family that includes his nieces and nephews: Chris Webster, Cary Webster, Esther Edgren, Luanna Watlington, Benjamin Watlington, Blake Robertson, Kelly O’Connor, Maggie Weaver, Claire O’Connor, Alex Thomas, Destiny Thomas, Nathan Thomas, Jacob Thomas, and Spencer Thomas, along with their families and many others whose lives he touched.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; and his sisters, Ruth Webster and Susan Thomas.

He will be deeply loved, forever remembered, and greatly missed.

Rest easy, Charlie. Your watch is over.
