Charlotte "Marie" Stanfield, age 80, of Higbee, Missouri, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family, in the early morning hours on Monday, January 12, 2026.
Marie was born on September 21, 1945, at home in Bevier, Missouri. She was the daughter of John and Beulah (Cress) Cross.
She is preceeded in death by both of her parents; two sisters, Earleen Gladhill and Faye Blackorby; and two brothers, Arnold Cross and Thomas Cross, all of Bevier, Missouri.
Marie is survived by her daughter, Maria (Danny) Reed, of Huntsville, Missouri; son, Larry (Jodi) Stanfield, of Linn Creek, Missouri; son, Ralph (Millie) Stanfield, of Macon, Missouri; and daughter, Laurie (Eric) Sweezor, of Cape Coral, Florida; 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Marie was a life-long giver. She loved to love and she loved to give. Her devotion spanned through home-cooked meals, birthday cards that always seemed to show up on time, and her gentle, yet commanding, presence as she relentlessly ushered everyone else first. She had a way of knowing what you needed, and a knack for showing up just as you needed it. Despite her many hardships, Marie had an undeniable softness within her. She cherished her home and her yard, a skill she learned from her father and passed down to her own children. She loved nature and filled her life with what she treasured most — cardinals, “hooty owls” and roosters, purple iris flowers, black licorice, and the art of being a mother. Of everything, Marie loved her family most of all. The legacy of her devotion and of her strawberry-gooseberry pie, lives eternally in the hearts of all those who love her.
The family will have a Celebration of Life at the Higbee Senior Center in Higbee, Missouri, on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm for immediate family and from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm for extended family, friends and all others who loved her.
