Dale Eugene Lucas

Dale Eugene Lucas, age 73, of Moberly, MO, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2025, at Valley View Nursing & Rehabilitation.

Dale was born on May 4, 1952, but celebrated his birth on June 4, due to clerical error, to Winifred Lucas and Joy Downey. Raised in Renick, he always considered Moberly his hometown. Dale was a member of St. Pius X Catholic church in Moberly. He received his GED in 1996 from Moberly Area Community College.

In 1979, he started his career with the Missouri Department of Corrections as a correction officer in Moberly, MO. Continuing his career with the DOC, he transferred to Bowling Green, MO, as a case worker. Upon his retirement in 2012, he returned to his hometown of Moberly. Throughout his career he built memorable relationships to whom he will be remembered by his onery smile, and his extravagant tales.

Dale always found something to keep him busy. From auctions to rummage sales, he would find something to tinker with, even if it was just mowing the grass. He enjoyed telling stories with friends and family, fishing, hunting, and working on any odd job he thought he could tackle. When not taking on the odd job, he was content sitting on his porch drinking a bottle of Pepsi or a tall glass of milk waiting for someone to have a chat. His family and friends will always remember him for his stories, jokes, pranks and sometimes tall tales.

Dale reacquainted with his “partner in crime” Patty Irby in 2019. They spent their time eating out, dumpster diving, attending church, and going to garage sales. He attended family vacations and was encouraged to try other activities such as line dancing, snow skiing, and horse trail riding.

Surviving family members are his children: Michael (Amy) Lucas, of Moberly, Katherine Hull (Kevin), of Moberly, half-brother, Richard (Joleene) Fluegel, of Geneseo, IL; grandchildren: Christian, Cameron, and Caden, sons of Michael (Amy) Lucas, William Lewis and London Hull, children of Katherine Hull.

Dale is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Wayne Lucas and Larry Lucas.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 19, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Pathway Millard Family Funeral Chapel in Moberly. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. with Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery following the service.
