David Eugene Garner, 70, a man who truly lived life on his own terms, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. Born on August 19, 1955, in Hannibal, Missouri, David was the beloved son of the late Melvin and Josephine (Day) Garner.
David dedicated much of his life to his career at Ford in Moberly, Missouri, where he took great pride in his work and the life he built through his commitment. His dedication to his job was a reflection of the strong character he brought to everything he did.
Outside of his professional life, David was known for his passionate love of drag racing. He was drawn to the thrill of the track and the powerful roar of the engine, a passion that mirrored his zest for life and his love of movement and freedom. This enthusiasm extended beyond the racetrack into his everyday living, as he embraced life with vitality and joy.
David also found peace and comfort in the outdoors. Whether he was enjoying the fresh air, getting his hands on new projects, or simply enjoying the beauty of nature, the outdoors were where he felt most at home. This connection to nature was an important part of who he was.
Above all else, David's greatest pride and joy were found in his family. He cherished the time spent with his grandson, creating memories filled with laughter, love, and treasured moments that will be held close by those who knew him best.
Survivors include, Grandson, Zane Garner and his fiancé MaKenna Marsh; Brother, Rob Garner (Annette); sister, Deanna Brown (Charlie Worley); Nieces, Ashley Anderson (Justin), Lakota Worley (Cordell Whitehead) JoHannah Garner and nephew, James Garner; Great nieces and nephews, Caden Anderson, Aliyah Anderson, Avery Worley, Laylynn Whitehead, Myah Whitehead, Jesse Garner (Kara), Joey Garner and Bradyn Garner; and great great niece, Annie Garner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Michael Garner; and grandparents, Daisy and Clarence Garner and Josephine and Charles Day.
A graveside burial will take place on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery, Moberly, MO.
