David G. Hargus, 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at his home.
Born January 23, 1945, in Cherokee, Iowa, son of Glenn and Marion (Broocks) Hargus. He was married to Nancy Chism on December 14, 1963, in Clark, Missouri.
David proudly served in the United States Army, including a tour of duty in Vietnam where he was an aircraft electrician.
For twenty-seven years he managed Maupin Gas Company and retired from MFA Oil where he was a maintenance technician in January of 2010.
David was a member of Madison Baptist Church, but in recent years, he worshipped with First Baptist Church of Moberly. He was ordained as a deacon at Madison Baptist and served as a trustee and Sunday school teacher. He was an avid gardener, loved to cook and was famous for his homemade cinnamon rolls. He was always interested in anything his grandchildren were involved in. One of his proud accomplishments was building a two-room addition onto the Baptist Church in Madison.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years, Nancy, son; Stephen (Marsha), daughter; Stephanie (Jerry) DeOrnellis, grandchildren; Justin (Kendra) DeOrnellis, David and James DeOrnellis, Emily (Cameron) Newcomb, Ryan Hargus, Cassandra (Kyle) Blackmore, Aaron (Cassidy) Hargus, Travis Kendall and daughter in law; Anne Kendall. Six great grandchildren; Logan, Willow, Everett and Jasmine Blackmore, Joanna DeOrnellis, Carmen and Ashland Hargus, and another great grandson due in March.
David was preceded in death by his parents, son; Darren, his grandparents and father and mother-in-law.
Visitation for David will be held at Pathway Millard Family Chapel on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. with a funeral service to follow. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow funeral services at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Madison, MO.
