David Lee Sartain, 79, of Moberly, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 10, 2018 at his home. He was born May 31, 1939 in Fayette, MO to Marvin Sartain and Helen Childers Sartain and remained a lifelong resident of the Howard and Randolph County area. On December 31, 1962 he married Sandra Lee Youll and they spent 55 memorable years together. David “Papa Smurf” worked for DuPont for many years prior to his retirement. David also worked for Temple Stephens and Wick Homes. He was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God. David liked gardening and woodworking. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Those preceding David in death are his parents; his brother, Carl Sartain and two brothers-in-law, David Bishop and Bill Berkley. Survivors include his beloved wife, Sandy Sartain of Moberly, MO; his daughter, Marilyn (Chad McCutchen) Sartain of Callao, MO; grandchildren, Callie McCutchen and Christopher McCutchen of Callao, MO; siblings, Dean (Jackie) Sartain, Peggy Bishop and Sarah Berkley all of Columbia, MO and Janice (Sam) Bentley of Chillicothe, MO; special nephew, Jerry (Debby) Sartain of Cairo, MO; additional nephews, nieces, extended family and close friends. Service celebrating David’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church, 1440 Highway JJ, Moberly, MO. A memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions in David’s memory are appreciated to the City of Moberly Animal Shelter, 153 West Outer Rd., Moberly, MO 65270 or to Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church, 1440 Highway JJ, Moberly, MO 65270.
