Dorothea Elaine Barton

Dorothea Elaine Bradley Barton, formerly of Clark, MO, passed away on April 19, 2017, in Laurens, SC. She was born on August 18, 1925, in Boone County but at a Clark, MO, address to Keith Coleman and Addie Lee Evans Bradley. She attended rural Boone County schools and graduated as valedictorian of Sturgeon High School in 1943. After graduating from Orton-Rice Business School in Columbia, she was employed as a secretary with the University of Missouri for 4 ½ years. She married A. Clay Barton of Clark on October 4, 1947, who preceded her in death on September 26, 1998. A son, Lanny Lee Barton, also preceded her in death on May 27, 1996. Dorothea was retired from Baxter International, formerly Kwik-Kold, Moberly, MO, where she worked as Office Manager and Administrative Assistant for 25 years. She was always active in community affairs including the PTA (started the hot lunch program at the Clark school), Randolph County Public Health Board, President of Chapel Grove Cemetery Board, Randolph County Democratic Club and served as an election judge for over 30 years. She attended the Sturgeon United Methodist Church in Sturgeon, MO, where she was pianist for several years and also served as treasurer, trustee and in other capacities. In July, 2012, she moved to Laurens, SC, to be with her daughter and her family. She is survived by her son, L. Clay Barton (Katherine) of Lee’s Summit, MO; her daughter Patricia Ivy (John) of Laurens, South Carolina; and a daughter-in-law Dana Irons Barton of Lake Ozark, MO. Other survivors include two granddaughters and three grandsons: Jackie Barton, Columbia, MO; Elizabeth Ubell (Brian), Chicago; Andrew Barton (Tom), Chicago; Clay Ivy, Columbia, SC; Barton Ivy, Spartanburg, SC.; and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. on May 20 at the Sturgeon United Methodist Church, Sturgeon, Missouri, with funeral services following at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at the Chapel Grove Cemetery, Clark, Missouri under the direction of Million Taylor Funeral Homes of Moberly. The family requests memorials to the Sturgeon United Methodist Church, Sturgeon, Missouri or Chapel Grove Cemetery, Clark, Missouri.
