Dorothy Frances Cooley

Dorothy Frances Cooley, 85, of Moberly, MO, went home to the Lord on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Boone Hospital in Columbia.

Dorothy was born on February 15, 1940, in Sullivan, IL, to Herman and Gertrude (Woods) Downing. She graduated from Madison High School in 1957. She worked a number of years at Orscheln Farm and Home Store in Moberly, at Macon Health Care Center, and retired from Con Agra in 2003.

Dorothy loved to read and study the Bible, attending and watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events and activities, and walking. She always said she belonged “To the general assembly and Church of the Firstborn, which are written in Heaven and to God the judge of all.” (Hebrews 12:23). Her family and friends will always remember her for her elegant handwriting and always sending cards for birthdays, holidays, and other special occasions.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Gertrude Downing and brothers and sister-in-laws, Adrain (Shirley) Downing and Glen (Velma) Downing.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Mark (Pat) Cooley, of Moberly, MO; daughter, Kim (Geryl) Wiggans, of Holts Summit, MO; grandchildren, Matthew (Allison) Cooley, of Wardsville, MO, Derek (Jessica) Cooley, of Sturgeon, MO, Garrett (Jasmine) Wiggans, of Jefferson City, MO, Gatlin Wiggans, of Columbia, MO, Courtney (Dave) Samuel, of Moberly, MO; great-grandchildren, Dawson, Nora, Quinn, Peyton, Paisley, Emerson, Tatum, Avery, Buehler, Nolan and Skylar; and sister, Maxine (Bob) Riley, of Holliday, MO.

A service celebrating Dorothy’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation prior from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Pathway Millard Family Funeral Chapel in Moberly, MO. Interment will follow the service at Sugar Creek Cemetery.
