Dorothy C. Holcomb

Dorothy C. Holcomb, 97, of Moberly, Missouri peacefully passed away surrounded by family on July 11, 2022, at Meadow Ridge.

Dorothy was born on April 3, 1925, in Moberly, Mo, to Charles and Lenah (Wilson) Dunn. She graduated from Moberly High School and attended Moberly Junior College until she accepted a job with the City of Moberly in 1944, accepting payment for water bills, then moving to the City Clerk’s office as a collector until her retirement.

Dorothy was a member of the Carpenter Street Baptist Church, before moving her membership to Immanuel Baptist Church and lastly moving to Timberlake Christian Church.

Some of Dorothy’s favorite things were reading, McDonald’s coffee and all things sweet. She loved to travel so much that she had been to every state in the U.S. besides Alaska and several other countries collecting mugs and magnets as souvenirs along the way. Dorothy always looked forward to her Thursday hair appointments with Betty at the beauty shop. However, being a Grandma was one of her biggest accomplishments, she was always so proud of all of her grandchildren.

Her family will always remember her being so forgiving, welcoming, faith based, extremely loving and accepting.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lenah Dunn; first husband, Wayne Switzer; second husband, Bill Holcomb; soul mate and longtime companion, Wayland Sumpter; granddaughter, Stacy Esry; great-great grandson, Lucas Hake; brother, Charles Dunn and spouse Judy Dunn; two son-in-law’s, Allen Esry and Bubby Kirkendoll.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Esry and Kathy Kirkendoll; son, Stevie (Annie) Switzer; grandchildren, Robin (Gary) Fletcher, David (Briana) Esry, Daniel (Brittany) Esry, Sandy (Steve) Hoffman, Amy (Tony) Colley , Wayne Kirkendoll, Corey Switzer and Courtney (Rob) Sommer; great grandchildren, Jeffery (Lindsay) Fletcher, Zachary (Courtney) Fletcher, Josi (Austin) Hake, Christopher Esry, September (Alex) Harris, Ethan Esry, Bennett Esry, Cyndi Hoffman, Cameron (Alley) Baker, Austin Turner, Jesse (Oliver) Messa, Josh (Paige) Benson, Ryan Starr, Charley Starr, Will Colley, Addy Switzer and Sarah Switzer; great-great grandchildren, Lochlan Fletcher, Keylynn Fletcher, Brittany Palmer, Henry Hake, Abigail Hake, Brayton Barron, Destyni Barron, Jaecey Farris, Lilly Farris, Beau Farris, Cooper Farris, Maddox Havice, Maverick Baker, LeighLou Harris, Harley Benson and Frankie Benson; niece, LoriAnn Armour and family; nephews, Gary Dunn and Greg Dunn and family.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022 starting at 12:00 p.m. until time of service at Pathway-Millard Family Funeral Chapel. Dorothy has been in my life since I was born. I grew up hanging out with my dad at City Hall when he was City Clerk and she was City Collector. Dorothy was always there and she was very well respected at City of Moberly. Dorothy would always smile, laugh, and have such nice things to say. God bless you Dorothy!
