Dorothy Summers

Dorothy Marie Summers, 83, of Moberly passed away January 30, 2019 at the home of her daughter following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born August 14, 1935 in Quincy, IL to Henry and Mary “Butler” Summers. Dorothy had to leave school after the 6th grade in order to take care of her ailing parents. She was always taking care of others. Her grandchildren joked that she was always on the go and could never sit still; she loved being busy. Dorothy also enjoyed watching cooking shows doing word search puzzles and visiting. She was a huge Elvis fan and collected a lot of Elvis memorabilia. Dorothy was a sweet lady with a big heart who will be missed by everyone who knew her. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Cindy Montgomery; two great-grandchildren, Tina Ann Hensley and Michael Wayne Hensley; two brothers, Louis and James Summers and two sisters-in-law, Mary and Alice Summers. Survivors include her daughters, Mary Knight of Moberly, MO and Kathy Murphy of Brush, CO; grandchildren, James Knight (Amber Smith) and Melissa (Daniel) Stephens all of Carrollton, MO, Joyce Graham of Laporte, CO, Bobby (Amy) Hensley of Brush, CO, Shelly (Josh) Royce of Shullsburg, WI, Shelby Montgomery of Sterling, CO, Ryne Montgomery of McCook, NE and Rocky Montgomery of La Crosse, WI; great grandchildren, Ashlynn Sumpter, Jamie Sumpter, Anthony Stephens, Brianna Stephens, Daniel “D. J.” Stephens, Jr, Angela Hensley, Craig Hensley and Eric Hensley; extended family and close friends. A family led memorial service celebrating Dorothy’s life will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Family Life Fellowship, 1614 Hwy 24 East, Moberly, MO. Visitation will be held the same day, beginning at 1:00 p.m. and running until the time of service. Memorial contributions are appreciated to the family c/o Mary Knight, 204 S.
