Edgar E. Grimsley 81, passed away peacefully at Macon Health Care Center, surrounded by the love of his family on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. Edgar was born December 7, 1944 to the union of Edgar M. Grimsley and Eunice I. (Stewart) Grimsley, who preceded him in death. He was one of eight children and lived most of his life in Yates, MO.
Edgar enlisted in the US Navy in 1965 and was honorably discharged in 1970, remaining in the Naval Reserve for eighteen years. During his service he was stationed on the USS Roosevelt (Vietnam), USS Saratoga (Europe), USS Midway (England) and the USS America (Cuba). Edgar served as an airplane mechanic during these missions. Edgar often stated that he got to "see the world" throughout his service years. Edgar worked at McGraw-Edison in Moberly, MO before enlisting in the Navy and after discharge worked for Stephens Stables in Columbia, Mo as well as various jobs in the surrounding area. Edgar was of the Baptist faith.
Edgar enjoyed the quality care he received while at Macon Health Care Center and especially Leann, Rhonda & the late Steacy Simons. He also enjoyed weekly visits with his sisters, brothers, and their families. He especially enjoyed his visits with his great nephew Charlie.
Edgar is survived by siblings Shirley (Raymond) Ruch of Macon, Mo, Linda Rogers, Tamera (Matthew) Wilcoxson and Timothy (Tammy) Grimsley of Yates, Mo, Paul Grimsley and Robert (Melinda) Grimsley of Higbee, MO and Regina (Danny) Brown of Moberly, MO as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
A graveside service will be held to honor Edgar with full military honors on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the Missouri State Veteran's Cemetery, Jacksonville, MO.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Higbee Senior & Community Center, 205 S. Railroad St, Higbee, MO 65257.
Local arrangements are under the direction of Pathway-Millard Family Funeral Chapel, 411 Union Avenue, Moberly, MO 65270 (660)263-7284. Condolences may be left online for the family at www.pathwaymemorial.com.
