Gary Gene Colston, Sr., age 77, of Moberly, MO, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on January 17, 2024. Gary (Dick) was born on October 13, 1946, in Springfield, IL, to Hubert and Lolita (White) Colston.
Gary worked with the NW Railroad for 4 years, then truck driving for over 40 years with over 3 million miles driven with Atlas Van Lines. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy from November 27, 1963, until October 22, 1968, as E5 Petty Officer Second Class. Special medals earned include: Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Services Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and completed ADJ” B” School.
Gary was a member of the LDS Church. He married Charlotte Colston (Stone) on June 3, 1967. He enjoyed fishing, Fish Camp with the boys, boating, hunting, and playing cards. His favorite thing was spending time with his family and friends. His family and friends will always remember him as a great fisherman and that he loved spending time with his dog, Fred. His favorite quote was, “If you just listen to me for a minute, I will tell you how to do it.”
He is preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Lolita Colston; and sister, Jeanette Mathews (Colston).
Gary is survived by his wife, Charlotte Colston of Moberly, MO; his children Gary and Cathy Colston, Kay Kay Colston, Amanda (Colston) and Roben Teter, Tanya (Colston) and Tommie Lorton; 10 Grandchildren - Garrison Colston (Ashley), Allison (Colston) Jerichow (Anthony), Bryson Colston, Michael Thompson, Christina (Thompson) Hammonds (Dallas), Hunter Teter, Roben Teter, Jr., Tommie Lorton Jr., Torrie Lorton, and Tyler Lorton; 6 Great-Grandchildren plus one on the way – Aubree Colston, Marshall Colston, Lila Colston, Ava Teter, Wynter Teter, Addison Hammonds (Monkey), and 1 on the way (Allison); Siblings – Charles Colston, William (Bill) Colston (Jane), Joe Colston (Cindy); Other Extended Family and Close Friends, His brother from another mother Ray (Dick) Stone, Steve Hull (Chonda), Leslie Stansberry (Becky), Laura Hall (Josh), and Corey Fisher.
A visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. A funeral service celebrating Gary’s life will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, followed by military honors and interment at Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO.
