On August 21, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him most, Gary Wayne Dutton departed his life at the age of 79, to join his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He left behind a lifetime of memories, and a legacy of love and hard work.
Gary was born on July 23, 1946, in Moberly, Missouri to Esther and Charley Dutton Sr. He grew up alongside five brothers and one sister. Life for the Dutton siblings was defined by love and a shared sense of responsibility. Together, they learned to navigate challenges by leaning on each other-a bond of service and reliability that Gary would eventually bring to his own family.
In 1963, Gary joined the U.S. Navy and training at the United States Naval Academy. The rigorous discipline and strong sense of duty instilled in him during his service helped shape the man he would be for the rest of his life.
Following his time in the U.S. Navy, Gary brought his discipline and dedication to Lockheed Martin Skunk Works. Serving as a Flight Line Mechanic, he built a distinguished 40-year career defined by technical expertise and unwavering dedication. He was very proud of the work he did for Lockheed Martin, and the career he was able to build there. He would often share mementoes from Lockheed, with his family, always with a smile on his face and a heart full of pride.
When retirement came in 2012, Gary embraced a life of travel and quality time. He loved to visit his family, and found great joy spending countless hours on his fishing boat (even to his daughters, Sarah and Carrie’s dismay, when he was night-fishing, alone, and not answering his phone…we lovingly forgive you Dad 😊) or working around his home, ensuring everything was taken care of. Gary retired to Florida where he made lasting friendships with his new neighbors Gary and Mary, and they became his extended family. His greatest joy was always found in the company of his family and friends.
A man of quiet strength, Gary’s greatest legacy is the way he showed up for people. Whether it was a technical challenge on the flight line or a personal crisis at home, he was the first to offer help, ensuring no one ever faced hardship alone. Gary will forever be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, always being there to support anyone in need. The last several years of his life were marked by an unfailing love his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and a strong desire to share the love of Jesus by supporting multiple charitable organizations.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Charlie and Charles Dutton.
He leaves behind his brothers; George Dutton and wife Diane, Donald Dutton and wife Betty, Robert Dutton, and William Dutton; his sister Elizabeth McCart; his children, Gordon Dutton and wife Dinorah, Carrie Gaylord and husband Brian, Amber Redifer, Christy Dutton, Sarah Dutton and their respective families, including numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He leaves a legacy of devotion, and his family and friends will carry his memory forward through lives defined by love.
Gary will be laid to rest on May 23, 2026 at 10:30 a.m., Oakland Cemetery, Moberly, Missouri
