Janet Brooks

Janet (Benner) Brooks went home to the Lord, where she is walking the streets of gold, on August 9, 2026.

Jan was born in Moberly, MO on November 20, 1951, to Donald and Betty Benner. She completed her school career in Moberly and spent several years working as a dental assistant for Dr Rychnovsky.

On April 10, 1977, she was united in marriage to Jerry W Brooks. Jan brought to this union two daughters, Melissa and Melinda and born to this union was a son, Justin W Brooks.

Jan was a lover of music, a trait she passed on to her children; she came alive when the music started. Dancing, lip-syncing, and rocking out on “air” instruments. Everyone who knew her knew her love for the Beatles. In recent years her sister, Renee, took her to see a Beatles tribute band. Although her Alzheimer’s had progressed, she enjoyed the show immensely. She was a tenderhearted soul with a kind and loving spirit. Her selfless heart, gentle nature, and unconditional love touched everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the love she gave so freely.

She is survived by daughters Melissa (Kris Bussen) Janson of Moberly, Melinda (Charlie) Reed of Cairo and son, Justin (Michelle) Brooks of Rockmart, GA, a brother Van (Jan) Benner of Moberly, MO, a sister Renee (Craig) O’Keefe of Ashland, MO and a sister-in-law, Amy (Gary) Workman of Tulsa, OK. Grandchildren Clabe and Dalton Reed, Jordan Wooten, Maddy (Ryan) Blackwell, Kris Bussen Jr, Zack (Addison) Scoggins of Hiram, GA, Natalie Scoggins of Rockmart, GA and Shannon Noreuil of Taylorville, IL. Great Grandchildren Kendal Reed, Reese and Carter Scoggins, Averi and Ashton Noreuil with another great granddaughter coming September, we are sure they are meeting in Heaven before baby Blackwell’s Earth side appearance. Along with several nieces and nephews.

Jan was preceded in death by both of her parents, a sister, Tracy Dean, and husband.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Compassus Hospice, for their care and support.

The family would also like to give a special thanks to Karol Bussen for her exceptional care of Jan during her final days.

A celebration of life will be held from 11a.m. to 1p.m. at First Christian Church 300 E Coates on Saturday August 29, 2026, with Jay Self officiating.
