Jerrod Michael Downing

Jerrod Michael Downing, 40, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 6, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him most. A lifelong resident of Moberly, Missouri, Jerrod was born on May 26, 1985. He was a beloved son, brother, father, and friend whose vibrant spirit was as unforgettable as his fiery red beard.

Jerrod was known for his quick wit, big laugh, and even bigger heart. Generous and always ready with a joke, he made everyone feel welcome in his presence. He approached life with humor and determination and never took himself too seriously.

He was happiest outdoors, especially when he was with his daughters. He loved pulling them behind his mountain bike on trailers, and once they were old enough, riding side by side. When they were little, he’d lift them high so they could see the world from his height - and at nearly six and a half feet tall, that was quite a view. Jerrod had a deep appreciation for good music (especially if it was live), good food (especially if it was spicy), and learning how things worked. A natural problem-solver, he could fix just about anything - and if he couldn’t, he’d teach himself how.

More than anything, Jerrod was a proud dad. His daughters were his world.

He’s survived by daughters Penelope and Lyla; his parents, Jan Wilson and Mike Downing, of Moberly; his sister, Tracina and brother-in-law, Buddy Shaw, of New Bloomfield; nephews, Hoon and Rutger Shaw; the girls’ mom, Kelsey Dean, of Columbia; and more family and friends than can be counted.

He’s now reunited with his grandparents and many other loved ones who went before him.

Jerrod may be gone, but he left a mark on all of us. We’ll carry his stories, his laughter, and his love with us always.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 28, 2025, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the VFW Post 2654, 1347 S Morley St, Moberly, MO 65270.  This is a casual event and refreshments will be provided. All are welcome to attend and share stories and photos at this tribute to his life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to cancer research in Jerrod’s name, or contributions can be made at the celebration to help cover final expenses.
