Jo Ann McGee

Jo Ann McGee, 72, of Holliday, Missouri, passed away on August 30, 2026, at Boone Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

Jo Ann was born on August 23, 1954, in Columbia, Missouri, to Helen and Raymond Gholson. On July 27, 1974, she married the love of her life, Sam McGee, in Columbia. Together, they built a life centered around love, family, and caring for those around them.

Jo Ann was a strong, loving, and deeply caring woman who always put her family first. She had a heart for taking care of others and spent her life making sure the people she loved were cared for. For more than 30 years, she devoted herself to caring for children, touching the lives of countless families along the way. Caring for others was not simply something Jo Ann did, it was part of who she was.

Her greatest joy was her family. She treasured time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and was lovingly known as “Mema.” She enjoyed flowers and music, but nothing brought her greater happiness than being surrounded by the people she loved. Jo Ann will be remembered for her strength, her generous heart, her loving nature, and the countless ways she cared for others throughout her life. Jo Ann attended Timberlake Christian Church in Moberly, where her faith was an important part of her life.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Sam McGee of Holliday; her children, Stacie (Paul) Huskey of Holliday, Sherry (Ercil) Lair of Holliday, and Dusty (Dana) McGee of Holliday; six grandchildren, Kaitlin (Alex) Hopson, Hunter Milner, Kevin Lair, Brooke Lair, Scott McGee, and Lafe McGee; two great-grandchildren, Colt Hopson, Beau Hopson and another great-grandchild soon to join the family. Two siblings Joyce (Jack) Bradshaw of Columbia and Jim (Mary) Gholson of Boonville and several nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Raymond Gholson, and an infant grandchild, Bailey.

A funeral service celebrating Jo Ann's life will be held Friday, September 4, at 11:00 a.m. at Timberlake Christian Church,1624 Gratz Brown Street, Moberly, MO, 65270. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., immediately preceding the service. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Holliday, Missouri.

Jo Ann leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love and devotion. Her family will carry with them the lessons she taught not only through her words, but through the way she lived. Love your family fiercely, care for others generously, and always make sure the people you love know they are loved. Her strength carried her through many seasons of life, but it was her loving heart that defined her. She will be deeply missed and forever loved by all who were blessed to call her wife, Mom, Mema, family, and friend.
