John Hess, age 61, of Higbee Missouri departed this life on December 8, 2025, at Columbia Missouri University Hospital. John was born on March 28, 1964, in Moberly, Missouri to his parents; Jerry and Joyce (Halterman) Hess. John graduated from Moberly Senior Highschool in 1982 and was a member of the Huntsville Christian church. He married Cindy (Lewis) Hess on June 14, 1986, in Hunstville, Missouri.
John spent his career in many roles, but most of his life's work was devoted to what he loved most, driving a truck over the road as an owner operator, a role that allowed him to combine his love for travel with providing for his family.
He will forever be remembered for his sharp sense of humor and his gift for making people laugh, even on their hardest days. If he liked you, he picked on you, and he was a master at delivering the most ridiculous lines with a perfectly straight face.
John loved children, especially his grandbabies. He delighted in treating them whenever he could, whether it was dollars slipped into little hands, candy, ice cream, french fries or happy meals, he found joy in giving. He treated children everywhere. No matter the season or the place, often, he left them with a cheerful "Merry Christmas" or his signature invitation, "Come see us....bring supper." Another favorite line of his was, "you look awfully nice today." It was the small genuine gestures that made him unforgettable.
John's legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of his loving family, which includes his wife, Cindy; his father, Jerry Hess of Moberly, MO; his sons, Ely (Bridget) and Briar (Rici) of Moberly, MO; his siblings, Kim (Debbie) Hess of Moberly, MO, Leeanne (Robert) Cooper of Fulton, MO, and Toma (Kent) Crane of Hallsville, MO, and sister in law Sheila Hess; Grandchildren, Charlotte of Moberly, MO, Rylee and Callen Hess, and their mother Elizabeth Hess of Fulton, MO, along with extended family and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Hess; brother, Jayson Hess; nephew, Christopher Hess; sister-in-law, Marsha Pool; and brother-in-law, Sam Pool.
John's humor, kindness, and love for his family will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
