Joyce Wortmann

With hearts both heavy in sorrow and uplifted in gratitude for a life so beautifully lived, we gather in memory of Joyce Wortmann, who passed away, surrounded by her loving family on June 24, 2026, at Monroe Manor in Paris, Missouri. She leaves behind an enduring legacy that continues to shine in the lives of all who knew her. Born December 16, 1944, to parents Clarence Schulte and Rose Niederer in St. Peters, Missouri, Joyce’s life journey was one rich with love, warmth, and an unwavering dedication to family—a bond she cherished above all else.

Joyce graduated from Wentzville High School in 1962, and later earned her Associates Degree from Moberly Area Community College. She worked for the Human Resources Department at Orscheln Ind, until her retirement. Joyce married Leroy Wortmann on October 14, 1967, in Flint Hill, Missouri, and built a wonderful  life together for 58 years. 

She was a devoted member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, where her faith was reflected not only in worship but in service. She found great joy in supporting her church and giving back to the community, quietly offering her time wherever it was needed. 

 Joyce will be remembered for her beautiful smile that could lighten any room, her bubbly personality, and the wisdom she shared. She faced life's challenges with unshakeable optimism, unwavering strength of spirit, and a fierce determination that inspired those around her. Whether offering encouragement, lending a helping hand, or preparing a meal for family and friends, Joyce gave of herself wholeheartedly. She also happened to be an amazing cook, and the love she poured into her kitchen was just one more way she made people feel special and cared for. 

At the heart of Joyce’s life was her family. She is survived by her husband Leroy Wortmann, whose partnership was a foundation of shared joys and steadfast support. Her guiding hand and nurturing spirit live on through her children; Tammy Freelin (Jeff) of Columbia, MO, Cindy Turpin (Scott) of Centralia, MO, Shelly Burke (Trae) of Richmond, TX, and Karry Weston (Clay) of Centralia, MO; Grandchildren, Taya Fraughton of Fulshear, TX, Ashton Turpin, Jackson Freelin, Collin Young, Camryn Turpin, Jonas Freelin, Layla Young, all of Columbia, MO, as well as Reece Burke, Gannon Burke and Houston Burke of Richmond, TX; Siblings, Donald Schulte of Foristell, MO, Lorraine Bornhop of St. Louis, MO, Michael Schulte of Montgomery City, MO, and Ralph Schulte of St. Peters, MO. Each of them carries forward the lessons she taught through word and deed—kindness, tenacity, and the importance of togetherness.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Thomas Schulte.

As we honor her memory, family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on June 30, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Pius X Church, 210 South Williams Street, Moberly, MO 65270. Immediately following, a Mass in celebration of Joyce’s life will begin at 11:00 AM at the same location.
