Lela Hess

Lela Shirley Hess, age 83 of Moberly, Missouri, passed away on March 8, 2023, at a Skilled Medical Facility.  She was born on July 3, 1939, in Springfield, IL to Ernest Janssen and Florence (Kern) Janssen.

Lela graduated High School and went on to further her education with some college. She married Donald Wayne Hess on April 27, 1986, in Moberly, MO. Lela and Donald were happily married for 37 years. Donald worked for the Norfolk Southern Railroad for 43 years and after both their retirements Lela and Donald enjoyed various activities together.  These activities included traveling, snow birding in Texas with extended family, golfing and spending quality time at home.

She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Ernest and Florence (Kern) Janssen and son, William Edward Lewis.

Lela is survived by her husband, Donald Hess of Moberly, MO; daughter, Wilma Lee Pore also of Moberly, MO.  She is also survived by 2 sisters, Lois Wright, St. Louis, MO and Lynn Taylor, Moberly, MO; brother, John Janssen of Higbee, MO; grandchildren, Christy (Dustin) Bradley of Omaha, NE, Ethan Struble of Moberly, MO, and Kaitlin Lewis of Madison, MO; great grandchildren, Bridget Bradley and Conner Bradley both of Omaha, NE, Weston Struble of Moberly, MO.

A visitation celebrating Lela’s life has been scheduled for Tuesday, March 14, 2023, from 11:30 to 12:30 at Pathway Millard Family Funeral Chapel in Moberly, MO.  Interment to follow at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO.
