Mark Wayne DeShon of Moberly, Missouri, passed away at Boone Hospital on November 18, 2023, one month away from his 61st birthday.
Mark was born on December 17, 1962, in Macon, Missouri, to William Roy DeShon II and Eva Kathryn (Beckner) DeShon. He graduated from Macon High School in 1981 and Southwest Baptist University in 1986. He also attended Northeast Missouri State University and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
After answering God’s call to ministry in April 1982, Mark served at several churches. These were: Interim pastor at Moulton Baptist Church in Moulton, IA; Youth minister at Maywood Baptist Church in Independence, MO; Pastor at Lancaster Baptist Church in Lancaster, MO; Calvary Baptist Church in Tamuning, Guam, once as a Southern Baptist Missionary Journeyman (music & youth) and a second time as pastor. Lastly, Mark served as pastor at Immanuel Baptist Church in Moberly, MO, where he again answered God’s call, this time, to come home.
Mark married his wife, Juvy Guevara Leyble, in January 1989. They celebrated the birth of their daughter, Janelle Laurin Leyble DeShon, in February 1990, and their son, Jeffrey Allen Leyble DeShon, in January 1994. They welcomed Gunner Wyatt Golden into their family when he married Janelle in May 2014.
Mark DeShon was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, children, and son-in-law. He is also survived by his brothers William Roy DeShon III (Karen) of Plattsburg, MO, and Joseph Allen DeShon of Pendergrass, GA, and his sister Kathryn Claire DeShon of Independence, MO. He is also survived by two nephews, Andrew DeShon, and Chad DeShon (Katie) and their children Ellis and Georgia, and one niece, Amy DeShon Larry (Erik) and their children, Elijah, Eva, Emmet, and Ezekiel. He is further survived by his friends, church members, and extended family that loved him very much.
Mark enjoyed reading books, both fiction and non-fiction. He also enjoyed watching sci-fi shows, movies, and football. Most of all, Mark enjoyed preaching and caring for his flock.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, November 27, 2023, at Pathway-Millard Family Funeral Chapel in Moberly, Missouri, followed by interment at Oakland Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until time of service on Monday, November 27, 2023 at Pathway-Millard Family Funeral Chapel. If desired, memorial contributions are appreciated to the Immanual Baptist Church at 1201 Buchanan St, Moberly, MO 65270.
