Mary Maude Blackwell

April 10, 1929 — February 28, 2021

Mary Maude Blackwell went to be with the Lord, February 28, 2021. She was 92 years old. She was born Mary Maude Jones on April 10, 1929, in Glasgow, Missouri. She was the youngest of five children born to Annie Hatten and Vernon Jones. Mary was raised in the Glasgow area but had lived over 50 years in Moberly. In 1946 she married R.C. Crossland, a returned WWII veteran. They had two children, Terry Crossland and Jennifer Crossland. Later she married Marshall Blackwell of Moberly. They had one child, Curt Blackwell. With this marriage she also gained a daughter, Dorothy Blackwell Neece Haley. Mary was a waitress all her working life. She worked at the Merchants Hotel, Moberly Country Club, the Ramada and the Colonial Inn. Mary loved people, and in her profession she was able to meet many people and serve them as well. She was a lifelong member of the Baptist Church. For the last 50 years she belonged to the First Baptist Church in Moberly. Mary was always ready to help anyone that was in need. She was predeceased by her parents, Annie and Vernon Jones, her husband, Marshall Blackwell, a son, Terry Crossland, her siblings, Velma Chrisman, Richard Jones, Jay C. Jones and Charlie Jones. Surviving are her daughters, Jennifer (Michael) Purdy, Dorothy (Walter) Neece Haley and a son Curt (Brande) Blackwell; her grandchildren, Meredith Orton, Brandon Blackwell, Ryan Blackwell, Whitney (Adam) Tarr, and Leanna Little. She is also survived by numerous great grand children. A special thanks to Dorothy Neece Haley whose love and support made Mary's last years at home so much better. Also many thanks to Janet Hackward and Comprehensive Care for their special care for Mother before she moved to assisted living. And much thanks to the staff at Mark Twain Assisted Living for their good care of Mother in her last years. We will miss Mother’s bright eyes and sweet smile. In the words of the old spiritual hymn, "In the sweet by and by we shall meet on that beautiful shore, where our spirits will sorrow no more". A celebration of Mary’s life will be Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at Million Taylor Funeral Homes. The family will have visitation at 10 am with the funeral at 11 am. with Pastor Richard Clouse officiating. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery.
