Mary Winston (Kenepp) Smiley

October 23, 1923 — May 3, 2018

Mary Winston (Kenepp) Smiley, 94, of Madison, died May 3, 2018, after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her family and the love of God and her many friends. Mary was born October 23, 1923 in Armstrong, Missouri; the only child of Johnnie and Lorea (Norris) Kenepp. She graduated from Roanoke High School and attended Moberly Junior College. After college, she worked for two years for Orschlen Bros. Brake Lever in the office. On July 22, 1944, she married the love of life, Bobby Smiley and except for the two years he was in Military Service, they were together for almost 71 years, until his death, June 24, 2015. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Clifford Smiley, and her parents. Survivors include: one daughter, Judi (Leland) Kramer of Madison, Missouri; granddaughters: Michelle (Brian) Mooney of Columbia, Missouri and LeAnn (Chad) Brown of Moberly, Missouri; grandson, Rex Smiley of St. Joseph, Missouri; great granddaughter, Sabrina Brown of Moberly, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Clare Smiley of Madison, Missouri; and many treasured friends. Mary enjoyed her life as a homemaker and loved spending time with her precious family and friends. She was a good wife and mother, and an inspiration to all. She will be remembered for her smile, hugs, praying for others, and her "mission" of sending birthday cards to others. She was a member of the Madison Grace United Methodist Church, and served as adult Sunday School teacher for many years. A visitation will be held on Monday, May 7, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. at the Madison Community Center, Madison, Missouri with Rev. Karen Shearer officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Madison, Missouri. Arrangements are under the direction of Million Taylor Funeral Homes of Moberly, Missouri. Memorials may be made to the Madison Grace United Methodist Church or Madison Area Community Center.
