Nancy Jo Whiting

Nancy Jo Whiting, 72, of Moberly, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 6, 2026, with loved ones at her side in Moberly.

Nancy was born on April 25, 1954, in Oak Park, IL. Growing up in LaGrange, as a young girl, she was a good student and her report cards shared fond comments about her dimpled smile. She enjoyed music and art, the beach and her grandmother’s homemade Swedish meatballs.

Her love of art continued, and she studied the work of painter Charles Vickery at the Clipper Ship Gallery in LaGrange. Her time spent at the gallery developed into lifelong work in oil painting and seascapes. Over the years she pursued other art forms, including pastels, ceramics and engraving.

Nancy also loved animals, particularly horses and cats, which were always a part of her life and featured in her art. Her affinity for animals was instilled in her children to this day.

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Ruth Sampson, as well as her dear sister Diana and beloved grandmother Helen.

She is survived by her 4 children, Jessica, Christopher, Kathleen, Rhonda and their respective spouses; as well as 10 grandchildren; along with other relatives including Lisa, Patti, cousins Paul and Thomas, and her devoted sister Ellen. She is also survived by her cat, ZuZu, who is now in the care of her daughter.

Nancy was known to be kind-hearted, sincere and humble. She will be remembered for her genuine nature, and through the artwork that she leaves behind for her family and future generations.

Nancy’s family extends a special thank you to her dear friend Carmen, who was a true friend and steadfast support for her.

In accordance with Nancy’s wishes, the family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.
