It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a loving mother, devoted wife and best friend. Nancy’s battle with cancer came to an end on May 9, 2026. She passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly.
Nancy was born on June 19, 1950, in Armstrong, Iowa, to Lois Margaret Corderman and Dale Arnold Corderman. At the age of 2, Nancy and her family moved to Missouri where she grew up on the family farm in Cairo with her parents and four siblings.
Nancy attended Cairo High School, where she met the love of her life, John Schumann. They were united in marriage on December 12, 1970, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Moberly, Missouri. They had four children.
Nancy’s wedded life began in Moberly. In 1985 she returned to her roots in Cairo where she and Johnny purchased a family farm across the road from where she grew up. Here they would spend the next 40 years building a life, raising children, welcoming grandchildren, and weathering every storm and blessing that life brought their way. Nancy loved her home dearly; it was the place she wanted to go home to in the end, the place where she quietly passed, and it is there where she will find eternal peace.
Nancy lived her life with a quiet grace that left a lasting imprint on all those who knew her. She was a kind, loving and generous soul, always putting the needs of others above her own. She spent her early years being a mother, homemaker and childcare provider. When her children reached school age, she began a job with Wal-Mart in Moberly. She would spend the next 40 years in a job she loved, bringing to the workforce the same dedication she had always given her family. Nancy touched many lives throughout her career. Her co-workers became extended family- people who admired her kindness, work ethic and the positive spirit she embodied.
Nancy had a special fondness for auctions and flea markets, where she could spend hours searching for hidden gems. Her most prized treasures she found were items for her Coca Cola collection, each piece a reminder of her eye for nostalgia. She cherished the theater, she loved dinners with family and friends where laughter flowed easily, and conversations lingered long after plates were cleared. Some of her happiest moments were spent on the family farm. Watching cattle graze and reading under her favorite shade tree in a swing Johnny built. Most of all, she loved quiet evenings at home with her husband.
Family meant everything to Nancy. Every holiday, John and Nancy’s house became the gathering place and would come alive with family, friendships, and love. Birthdays, barbecues, Thanksgiving and Christmas - they hosted them all. She was always ready to provide a good meal and play a few hands of poker.
Nancy’s greatest accomplishment in life was raising her beloved children. Four souls that were each uniquely impacted by the love their mother gave. Her children carry with them the example she set: to listen deeply, to accept without judgement, to love generously and to find beauty in the simplicities of life. She had a quiet way about her, a calming presence that put others at ease. A patient soul that her kids could always come to for advice, understanding, acceptance and love. When each child left home, they had been imparted with the greatest gift a parent can give-the ability to make it on their own, while also having the quiet comfort of knowing they could always come home.
Nancy had strong faith and left this world knowing that she is loved beyond measure by her children, her siblings and especially by her husband. Their love shined brightly throughout 55 years of marriage but was somehow even brighter in the end. Johnny never left her side, setting the ultimate example of what a husband and best friend really is.
Nancy’s legacy of kindness and love will leave a mark on the hearts of those who knew her and she will be missed tremendously.
Nancy is survived by her devoted family, including her husband; John Schumann of Cairo, MO, her children; Paul (Melissa) Schumann of Jacksonville, MO, Linda Howard of Cairo, MO, Jason (Jess) Schumann of Huntsville, MO, and Jaime Schumann of Macon, MO.
