Rebecca Jo Wright, known affectionately to family and friends as Becky, passed away peacefully at her home on August 15, 2026, at the age of 74, with her two remaining children by her side. A lifelong presence in the Higbee and Moberly areas, Becky left an enduring legacy of kindness, creativity, and unconditional love within her community.
Born on September 26, 1951, in Randolph County, Missouri, Becky was the daughter of the late Forrest William Wright Sr. and Ola Mae Wright. Growing up in a tight-knit rural environment alongside her siblings, she loved playing basketball during her school years and developed a deep appreciation for community roots and the simple blessings of everyday life. Though she knew profound loss at a very early age—losing her mother when she was just 9 years old and her father at age 12—she refused to let hardship diminish her spirit. Instead, those early trials taught her just how truly precious life is, inspiring her to love even harder and anchor her heart deeply in those she held dear.
Becky’s life was beautifully defined by her nurturing spirit. She spent her entire lifetime as a caregiver, always placing the needs of others before her own and offering a comforting, selfless presence to everyone she encountered. When she was not looking after those around her, she found deep joy in expressing her creativity. Becky loved to paint, capturing the world’s beauty on canvas, and she loved to garden, tending to her plants with the same patient care she gave to people. Her immense heart also extended to her animals, whom she loved dearly and treated with the very same tenderness and devotion she showered upon her children. Above all else, Becky’s family was her most prized possession. She dedicated her life to protecting, supporting, and celebrating her loved ones, leaving behind a wealth of treasured memories.
Becky was preceded in death by her parents, Forrest William Wright Sr. and Ola Mae Wright; her brother, Forrest William Wright Jr; her sister, Lottie Wilson; her beloved children, Ashley Nicole Schmit and Benjamin William Baker; her cherished grandson, Kyle Eugene Wetzel; her niece, Tangie; and her nephew, Richard.
She is survived by her two daughters, Angela Baker and April (Kenny) Baker Roberts; her fifteen cherished grandchildren, Austin Chase, Ryan Brooks and his wife Ayrehl, Breanna Roberts, Mikayla Chase, Kylie Roberts, Alisabeth Wetzel, Abigail McCormick, Bradley McCormick, Gunner Roberts, Logan Baker, Kira Ames, William Baker, Victoria Wetzel and her husband Tyler Worley, Jacob Duncan, and Aiden Baker; and her fourteen precious great-grandchildren, Emmersyn Lunsford, Kyler Wetzel, Elliot Wetzel, Emmaline Closser, Janelle Burton, Melody Edjewou, Millie Edjewou, Avery Murray, Everett Wetzel, Oaklynn Murray, Cayde Brooks, Roman Brooks, Cooper McCormick, and Feitan Perkins, as well as three more expected great-grandchildren on the way; her beloved sister-in-law; and several loving nieces and cousins; along with a community of close friends and neighbors who will miss her dearly.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no formal visitation or traditional funeral services. A celebration of Becky's life will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at the Higbee Senior and Community Center in Higbee, Missouri. This gathering holds a deeply meaningful significance for her family, as it takes place exactly on what would have been her 75th birthday, creating a beautiful full circle to honor the day her journey began and celebrate the lasting legacy she left behind. Her ashes will be placed next to her children at the Higbee City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Higbee Cemetery Association or a charity of the donor's choice.
Local arrangements are under the direction of Pathway-Millard Family Funeral Chapel, 411 Union Avenue, Moberly, MO 65270 (660)263-7284. Condolences may be left online for the family at www.pathwaymemorial.com.
