Robert William (Slick) Schlichter, passed peacefully from this life at his home in Moberly, MO, on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at the age of 80.

Robert was the eldest son of Mearl Robert and Elsie Elizabeth (Brooks) Schlichter and was born in the home in Mascoutah, Illinois where he also attended school.

On leaving high school, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy and served as an Aviation Electronics Technician, air crewman, aircraft maintenance inspector, and Shop Chief. He was privileged to receive numerous awards including Squadron Man of the Quarter, Good Conduct Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal. At discharge, Slick went to work again for the United States Navy at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, California and served as an Electronics Mechanic. It was while employed at the shipyard that he developed an interest in law enforcement from which he ultimately retired after approximately 40 years. His career in law enforcement included patrol, detective, investigator, corporal, lieutenant and Chief of Police and Federal Investigator.

Slick was an active Freemason and a ritualist.

He served as Master of Sheffield Lodge No. 625 in Kansas City, MO, and held dual membership with Moberly Lodge No 344 in which he was Treasurer. Bob was High Priest of Liberty Chapter No 3 Royal Arch Masons; Illustrious Master of Liberty Council No 50 and Commander of Liberty Commandery No 6. He also held dual memberships with Shelbina Chapter #99 (formerly Macon Chapter No 22) and Malta Commandery #72 (formerly Emmanuel Commandery No 7). Robert served as Grand High Priest of the Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons of Missouri in 1998-1999 and as Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of Missouri in 2016-2017. He is a Past Puissant Sovereign of Mary Conclave No 5 in Buckner, MO, and Recorder; Past Grand Director General of the Grand Preceptory Yeomen of York, of MO, and Grand Recorder; Past Sovereign of Mid Missouri Council No 291 Allied Masonic Degrees; Past Governor and Secretary of Heart of Missouri York Rite College No 188; Past Excellent Chief and Treasurer of Tipperary Council No 62 Knight Masons; Past Prior and Past Registrar of Missouri Priory No 17; Past President and Director of Ararat Shrine Motor Corps and past president of several Shrine Clubs, Past Ambassador; Past Assistant Director of Shrine Clubs; a 32 degree KCCH Scottish Rite Mason. Robert Holds honorary memberships in York Rite and Appendant Bodies in Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas and West Virginia. Slick is a member of the Order of High Priesthood, Order of the Silver Trowel and Past Commander’s Association of Missouri and many additional states and a holder of the Order of the Purple Cross. He holds additional memberships in The Sovereign Order of Knights Preceptor and Knights Crusader of the Cross in Louisiana and Crusading Knight of Siloam in Missouri.

Slick was Past Prelate and Treasurer of Moberly Moose Lodge No 776 and a member of Moberly Eagles Aerie No 2669.

Robert was preceded in death by both parents; wife, Carol Fern; brother, Wayne Schlichter; son, Robert Thomas Stevenson; sons-in-law, Christopher Broderick and Mike Manzo; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Surviving family members are wife, Sarah of the home; daughters, Denice Broderick, of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Vickie Richardson, of Kansas City, MO; son, Jewell Stevenson, of Kansas City, MO; stepsons, Dale (Krista) Eads, of Columbia, MO, Rusty (Ashlie) Eads, of Holts Summit, MO, and Michael Brown of Maze, KS; granddaughters, Lauren Broderick, of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Erin (Tommy) Schmitt, of Riverside, MO; grandsons, Nathan Stevenson, Branden “Mr. B” (Amanda) Stevenson, of Kansas City, MO, Bret (Kelsey) Stevenson, of Gretna, NE, and Sam (Megan) Broderick, of Lee’s Summit, MO; step-grandkids, Rose, Lili, Ashton, Ethan, Autumn, Addison, Gavin, Lexi, and Hazel; great granddaughters, Myla Schmitt of Riverside, MO, Evyn and Nellie Stevenson of Gretna, NE, Elizabeth and Brynn Stevenson, of Kansas City, MO; and great grandsons, Zack Stevenson, Silas Stevenson, of Kansas City, MO, Jonathan Broderick of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Ellis Schmitt, of Riverside, MO; brothers, Warren (Arlene) Schlichter, of Saline, CA, and Roger Schlichter, of Memphis, TN; nephews, Jeffrey (Robin) Schlichter, of Lexington, TN, and Zach Schlichter, of Saline, CA; and niece, Michelle Schlichter, of Wentzville, MO.

Masonic and Knights Templar services will be held at Pathway Millard Family Funeral Chapel in Moberly, MO, on Monday, April 28, 2025, at 12 noon. Visitation will be held prior from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00- noon. Burial with Military Honors will follow the service at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO.
