Susan Marie Hartgrove

Susan Marie Hartgrove, age 69, of Madison, MO, passed away surrounded by family on January 11, 2024, at Boone Hospital, Columbia, Mo.

Susan was born on January 6, 1955, in Moberly, MO to Gerald and Martha (Martin) Bird. She graduated from Madison C-3 High School in 1973. On June 14, 1974, Susan was united in marriage with her high school sweetheart, Jesse Hartgrove, in Paris, MO. For over 35 years, Susan was an in-home daycare provider for countless families in the community. She was also a member of the Pleasant Green Baptist Church. Susan's life was most proudly devoted to her family. She cherished every moment she spent with her husband, children and grandchildren. Susan liked to stay busy attending all her grandchildren's activities, hunting with the whole family, fishing, burning, mowing as well as gardening. Whether she was referred to as Susan, mom, grandma or suesue, you would always see her with the most genuine smile and appreciation for the ones she loved. Her entire family and friends would describe her as selfless, caring, compassionate and fiercely loyal. That love has been spread far and wide and continues on in her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Martha (Martin) Bird; father-in-law, Jesse Hartgrove and her brother, Jerry Bird.

Susan is survived by her husband, Jesse Hartgrove, of Madison, MO; daughter, Joni (Kyle) Duff of Madison, MO; son, Jerry (Paige) Hartgrove, of Madison, MO; grandchildren, Tyler, Kylie and Kennedy Duff, Alexis, Hunter and Cooper Hartgrove, Sophia Mayfield, Payslie Colley; two great grandsons, Beckham and another great grandson expected soon; siblings, Ann (Larry) Jones, Jeana (Paul) Kelly, Ernie (Tina) Bird, Marti (Keith) Thomas; mother-in-law, Mary Belle Hartgrove; sister in laws, Tess Bird and Kathey Tidwell; many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service celebrating Susan's life will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 19, 2024, with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at Pathway-Millard Family Funeral Chapel, Moberly, MO, followed by interment at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Madison, MO.  

Memorials in her memory are  suggested to: Monroe County Cancer Supporters or Pleasant Green Baptist Church in Susan’s memory.
