It is with great sadness that the family of Susan Lynn Sturgeon (née Fitzpatrick) announce her passing on Monday, August 24, 2026, at the age of 65.
She was born on February 28, 1961, in Moberly, Missouri, to Ronald and Lois Fitzpatrick. She married her husband and best friend of 31 years, Danny, on June 5, 1995.
Susan graduated from Salisbury High School in 1979 and went on to gain her teaching degree from Central Methodist University in 1991. She later earned her master’s degree and a Specialist Degree in Reading from the University of Missouri. She spent her 25-year teaching career at Renick School, teaching 2nd grade, 4th grade, and Title One Reading, helping many children find a love of reading along the way. Susan loved helping at church, reading, crocheting, spending time with family, and going on adventures with her husband and grandsons. Her love of teaching, children, and her family will be remembered by all who knew her.
Susan will be fondly remembered by her husband, Danny; her daughters, Danielle Sturgeon and Ashley ( Jerale) Nichols and her son, Shane (Casey) Hatfield; her grandchildren, Javell, Hendrix, Tyson, and another grandson due in January; brother, Jerry (Janice) Fitzpatrick; and numerous extended family members, friends, and former students.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Ron and Lois.
A funeral service will be held at Pathway Millard Family Funeral Chapel on Friday, August 28, 2026, at11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Asbury Cemetery, in Keytesville, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD, 21741, or Family Life Fellowship Church, 1614 US-24, Moberly, Missouri, 65270.
Funeral services for Susan will be held on Friday August 28, 2026, at 11:00a.m. Visitation will be held on Friday at 9:30 a.m. until 11. Burial will follow services at Asbury Cemetery, Keytesville, MO.
