Vernon Edwin Head, 83, of Moberly, passed away at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia on Monday, November 20, 2017. Vernon was born in Purdin, Missouri on July 7, 1934 to Walter R. Head and Blanche Barclay Head. He was united in marriage to Vickye Lesta Burrus on April 17, 1962. Vernon was an engineer for the Missouri Highway Department where he served as a supervisor for the building of bridges. He often joked that he only worked as an engineer to be able to afford his horses – they were his life. He raised, bred, broke, rode and shoed them. He was always at horse shows and sometimes served as a judge or an announcer. He was a member of the Randolph County Saddle Club. Vernon enjoyed participating in trail rides. He was instrumental in developing a horse arena in Rothwell Park. Vernon became an auctioneer and donated his talent for numerous charity events, including St. Jude’ and the American Quarter Horse Association. He was a member of First Christian Church in Moberly. Those preceding him in death are his parents and wife Vickye; brothers Alan and Eldon Head. He is survived by his daughter Ginger Albright and husband Ben of Moberly; grandchildren Adrian Albright of Moberly and Paige and David Oehrle of Moberly; great-granddaughter Reese Oehrle; siblings Dorothy Ramboger, Chattanooga, TN, Richard (Ann) Head of Columbia, Gilbert Head of Kearney, MO; in-laws Mike and Ande Spears, Moberly, Mike and Donna Burrus of Cairo, Donald and Jan Burrus of Illinois and Ron and Marilyn Slaughter of Osage Beach, MO Services will be held Sunday, November 26, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, family asks to have memorial contributions in Vernon’s honor made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2400 Bluff Creek Drive, Columbia, MO 65201.
