Walter Ray Turpin, 78, of Madison, passed away at his home July 3, 2018. Walter was born April 28, 1940 in Paris, MO to Ralph Raymond Turpin and Bertha Mae Legrand Turpin. He was a lifelong resident of Madison and a graduate of Madison High School. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy from 1958 until 1962. In 1976 he was united in marriage to Sarah Sullivan at the First Christian Church in Moberly and they shared over 40 years together. Walter was a member of the Madison Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He worked at A.B. Chance in Centralia, MO for 38 years as a shipping foreman. Walter enjoyed hunting deer, squirrel and rabbits and also spending nights camping and setting bank lines. He was “big” into vegetable gardening and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Walter was known as a good provider for his family and a good Christian man. Walter was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Sarah of Madison; children, Curtis Ray (Angie) Turpin of Oak Grove, MO, Scott Daniel (Cindy) Turpin of Centralia, MO, Walter Ray Jr. (Amber) Turpin of Knob Noster, Tracie Ann (Richard) Hochsprung of North Aurora, IL; grandchildren, Alexandria Turpin (Aaron) Davis of Oak Grove, Wyatt Turpin and Rachel Turpin also of Oak Grove, Ashton Turpin and Cameron Turpin both of Centralia, Nathaniel Ray Turpin and Hadley Turpin both of Knob Noster, MO, and Ashley Ann and Richard Ethan Hochsprung both of North Aurora, IL; siblings, Elsie Sullivan, LaPlata,P atricia (James) Cross, Moberly, Helen Gibler, Madison; William Turpin, Columbia, extended family and friends. Services for Walter will be Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Madison Baptist Church followed by interment at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Madison. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Memorial contributions would be appreciated to the Madison Baptist Church, 201 S. Jefferson St., Madison, MO.
