William Lewis

William Edward Lewis, 58, of Madison, Mo, lost his hard-fought battle with cancer on June 22, 2019. He passed away at his home surrounded by his family. Ed was born on September 15, 1960 in Lake Charles, LA to Clifford and Lela (Janssen) Lewis. He was a 1979 graduate of Higbee High School. After graduation, he accepted a position as a welder at Orscheln/Dura where he worked for more than 39 years. On March 14, 2017 he married his partner in life, Debra Mikel in Huntsville, MO. They spent 36 wonderful years together. Ed was a terrific father and husband. Ed enjoyed hunting, camping, 4-wheel riding, horseshoes, canoeing and playing cards with family and friends. He will always be remembered as a jovial and fun-loving man with an infectious laugh. Ed is preceded in death by his father, C. D. Lewis; maternal grandparents, Ernest and Florence Janssen and paternal grandparents, Edward Lewis and Nellie Lovas. He is survived by his wife Debra Lewis of Madison; his mother, Lela (Don) Hess of Moberly; beloved daughter, Kaitlin Lewis of Madison; sister, Wilma (Roy) Pore of Moberly; aunts and uncles, Lois Wright of St. Louis, MO, Lynn (Larry) Taylor of Moberly and John (Karen) Janssen of Higbee; several nieces and nephews; extended family and friends. A memorial graveside service celebrating Ed’s life will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2019 at the Higbee City Cemetery. Ed wasn’t fond of plants or flowers. It would make him very proud to know that instead, of sending flowers, his friends and family had made a donation in his honor to either the Monroe County Cancer Supporters, 118 N. Main St., Paris, MO 65275, or to Hospice Compassus of Macon, 1701 A Prospect Dr., Macon, Mo 63552.
